Character
Athletes will constantly strive to exhibit increasing levels of maturity; responsibility; self-discipline; positive support of their teammates; trustworthiness; honesty; integrity; sportsmanship; dependability; compassion; focus; and determination. Others who observe the team will find us to be of the highest moral character in everything we do, honoring our Staples family as well as our biological family in everything we say and do.
Academics
Student athletes should hold themselves to the highest standards in academics. They should be seeking to develop the tools they need to study and learn efficiently. Success in the classroom is a must in order to be a part of the volleyball program. We will work so that athletes continually seek to become the very best student, and person they can be. We will never be done. There is always more we can do to improve, individually and as a team.
Athletics
Coaches will provide clear, effective instruction of techniques and rules for competitive volleyball. Athletes will trust the coaches and follow instructions:
1. Coaches will encourage the volleyball players to set challenging, realistic, measurable personal goals in order to facilitate improvement.
2. Athletes will do their very best to achieve their individual and team goals.
3. Each athlete will “practice with a purpose”, working hard and constantly seeking to improve their strength, conditioning, technique, and skills in order to reach their full potential as a volleyball player.
4. Each athlete will recognize the importance of their attitude and they will exhibit a positive attitude.
5. As a team we will prepare, and expect, to win!
Staples High School Boys Volleyball
Volleyball is more than a sport. It is an opportunity to master important life skills. In the process of becoming a successful player, an athlete must develop and demonstrate -- among other things -- self-discipline, responsibility, self-confidence, goal setting, accountability, teamwork, positive support, and an appreciation of the value of hard work. It is expected that athletes will use these skills to make a positive contribution to their family, school, and community.
Volleyball is a team sport. The players must trust their teammates and coaches in everything they do. Working together is the key to a successful season. We are focused on preparing the team for success in competition, at the same time; we work with each individual to help him become the best volleyball player he can be. However, no individual is more important than the team, and therefore playing time will be determined based on the needs of the team. There is no equal playing time at the Varsity level. In the JV level, all athletes will have an opportunity to play and develop.
The Staples boys volleyball coaching staff feels strongly that every human being deserves to be always treated with respect and dignity. As such, we will work hard to seek excellence in games by creating a positive environment that is challenging and rewarding for each athlete and the team. We strive to endeavor an environment which is rewarding to train with intensity. It’s about setting goals, formulating a plan to attain those goals, and achieving them through hard work.
Each player will be required to sign a ‘team conduct’ contract and will be expected to fully honor that contract.
